Breeds that took part in the formation of the Dogo Argentino
Córdoba Fighting Dog

The Dogo is based on the Córdoba Fighting Dog (a crossbred Mastiff, Bull Terrier and old style Bulldog)

It was an extraordinary fighting dog, brave and resistant. But as a fault he had little sense of smell and his ferocity towards other dogs made him useless for hunting as they must hunt in group.

So, as we said, the Córdoba Fighting Dog was a cross among Mastiff, Bullterrier, English Bulldong and Boxer:

Spanish Mastiff
Bullterrier
English Bulldog
Boxer

The other breeds included to create de Dogo Argentino were:

Great Pyrenees Mastiff

Gave the Dogo Argentino size and white coat

English Pointer

Increased his scenting ability

Irish Wolf Hound

Gave him speed and size

Dogue de Bordeaux

It was introduced for jaw strength

Great Dane

Gave the Dogo Argentine size and head
